The Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators is a non-profit professional association for Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam Educators. The term “educator” is also referred to as trainer, instructor, or facilitator.
The Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators campaigns for, promotes and supports high quality Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam training.
One of the most important components of epilepsy care by health and social care professionals is the effective management of seizures. Prolonged or repeated seizures, which, if untreated, can increase the risk of status epilepticus and death.
Central to the mitigation of status epilepticus is the use of emergency epilepsy medication in the community, often termed ‘rescue’ medication.
Buccal Midazolam is now recognised as the first line rescue treatment in the UK. For Buccal Midazolam to be effective it needs to be administered at the right time, in the right way by highly trained health and social care professionals.
Health and social care professionals need effective training from educators with experience and competence to be able to provide safe pre-hospital management of prolonged or repeated seizures including the safe administration of Buccal Midazolam.
The Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators has evolved to ensure that those who require Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam training receive it from highly experienced competent educators.
The Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators maintains a professional register of qualified and competent Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam Educators. The register demonstrates the practitioner is trained to the highest possible industry standards.
The Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators Registered Members deliver Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam courses that are accurate, consistent, compliant, and educationally sound.
The Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators offers 3 grades of membership, all of which confirm the members occupational and educational competency to deliver Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam training in line with industry standards and our code of practice.
Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam courses delivered by Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators comply with the Epilepsy Nurses Association (ESNA) “Best practice guidelines for training professional carer’s in the administration of Buccal (Oromucosal) Midazolam for the treatment of prolonged and / or clusters of epileptic seizures in the community”.
Furthermore, to provide an additional layer of due diligence, the Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators has developed the only nationally accredited qualification for Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam in the UK which is listed on The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) register: Level 3 Award in Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam RQF.
Entry onto the Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators register is exclusively reserved for those Epilepsy and Buccal Midazolam Educators who has the necessary experience and competence as recognised by the Institute of Buccal Midazolam Educators.
